Recently Mecro, who for years has been one of the most recognizable street artists in New Brunswick, agreed to answer some questions for Hub City Street Art. When you're done reading the interview hit up his Mysapce page @ www.myspace.com/mecro .

HCSA: You've been one of the most prolific taggers/street artists in New Brunswick for years now. When did you start?
Mecro: Prolific is a strong word. But i guess i've been hittin NB for 4-5 years now.
HCSA: In what ways, if any, has your work or style changed over the years?
Mecro: I like to keep things kinda simplistic and elegant. I try not to get too crazy...but sometimes i do. i dunno.
HCSA: You do a lot of work along the North East Corridor train line. Do you prefer doing large scale work like that or the smaller scale stuff we see in the Brunz? What's the longest amount of time you've spent on a Mecro mural?
Mecro: I like to go as big as possible, but sometimes its the small stuff in the right location that gets more looks. Probably a few hours.
HCSA: What's the strangest/wildest thing that's happened to you during your artistic career?
Mecro: I've had a few crazy things happen, but i'd have to say the one time when i was doing a catwalk and a train went over the bridge at the same time.
HCSA: Are there other recognizable tags in the CDC (Cool Dudes Crushin / Constructive Destructive Crew)?
Mecro: CDC BABY! haha yeah, right now it's elvis6, youth, draft, cynic, dot.m and me.
HCSA: Who's work do you admire - either in the world of tags/street art or the world of art in general?
Mecro: I love the jersey graf scene, FH was a big influence when I moved to NB but pretty much anyone that is puttin' in the work is an inspiration
HCSA: I've heard you do shows. Do you have anything coming up?
Mecro: No, i have a canvas and some photos for sale at Cafe Ole, i believe its called, in Trenton. Leon Rainbow and VS are showcasing work there as well for the next week or so, so check it out. Other than that i painted a legal wall today.
(HCSA Note - location/contact info for Cafe Ole so you can check it out: 126 S. Warren St., Trenton, www.cafeolecoffee.com , 609-396-CAFE)
HCSA: What's next for Mecro?
Mecro: Philly.
